The Complete Film Solutions team recently travelled more than 15,000km across the globe to attend the International Window Film Conference and Tint-Off in San Antonio, Texas. You may be wondering, what’s that? The International Window Film Conference is an event that brings together professionals in the window film industry from across the globe to share information and showcase the latest in window film product innovation. The conference features educational sessions, networking opportunities, and a Tint-Off competition where installers can demonstrate their skills to compete for the top prize.
We’re proud to say we brought home first place for our design in the Tint-Off in the Decorative Window Film division. Keep on reading to find out how we did it.

A Team Effort
Before jetting off to the USA, the Complete Film Solutions team had to submit a portfolio showcasing their best works. With careful selection from Chris, we submitted a portfolio and were elated when word came back that we were selected as one of the top 5 finalists for the Tint-Off. Our talented in-house designer, Gayle, then put together an impressive design that Brent expertly installed – resulting in us taking home the gold in Texas.
The Challenge

Our quest to reach San Antonio was far from straightforward. After an 11-hour flight and an arduous 21-hour layover, our adventure continued with yet another lengthy 16-hour flight and a 5-hour drive. Given the multiple legs of our travels, we opted to bring our competition window film products as carry-on baggage, for added safety. In order to ensure the design satisfied carry-on baggage guidelines, we faced the unique challenge of confining each element within a mere 550mm cylinder tube. However, we made it work and arrived safely with everything we needed for the competition.

Our design needed to reflect the theme ‘What does the window film industry mean to you?’ As a local Perth business that started from a partnership between 2 friends in 2005, we decided to introduce a sub-theme, ‘from little things, big things grow’.
Our masterpiece consists of two sides, one side features a small house, which represents our humble beginnings as a Perth small business specialising in residential window film installation. The opposing side represents how far we’ve come and what we’ve grown to now. This side features a train that represents the two way loyalty that exists between Complete Film Solutions, and our longest standing customer – EDI Rail – Alstom Transport, who maintain WA’s metropolitan train fleet for the Public Transport Authority. That’s 15+ years of installing and maintaining the security film and graphics on the TransPerth train fleet. We also included a large LNG tanker, that represents one of our most ‘out of the box’ solutions for a fleet of 6 off-shore LNG tankers. Finally, the Perth cityscape, that represents our growth in team size and capacity to take on larger commercial window film projects.
To bring our vision to life, we utilised multiple different layers of different 3M film products including 3M 2080-12 Black, 3M 50-10 White; Avery 894 Dark Grey Metallic, 3M 1080 – G25 Sunflower, Avery 929 SC Green, 3M 50-46 Tomato Red, 3M P18 Silver, 3M Dichroic Blaze, and 3M IJ40-10 Print Media.
